Substack Newsletter
You can follow Global Summitry Project’s (GSP) research and global governance insights from the weekly – usually, Alan’s Newsletter posts. These posts focus on the key areas of GSP inquiry, most particularly global governance advances and failures.
The posts cover the research and insights from the China-West Dialogue (CWD) a project that includes thought leaders from across the globe and co-chaired by Colin Bradford, a Senior non-resident Fellow at the Brookings Institution and myself.
Alan’s Newsletter posts also examine the global governance and global summitry research issues that emerge from the Special Issues of Global Summitry e-Journal. In addition posts examine and comment on the global effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN’s Agenda 2030.
Alan’s Newsletter posts target a key focus of the GSP, the global summits – their gatherings and their commitments and their outcomes. We try to cover all the key global summits including the G7, G20, BRICS, APEC and other global summits as well.

The G20 is a prominent, if not the most prominent, informal leaders-led global summit. It consists of member states that represent 85 percent of the global GDP, over 75 percent of global trade, and about two-thirds of the global population.

BRICS provides an Informal where member states can collectively act and in many instances, as the members perceive it, challenge the Western dominated global order. These countries together account for about 40 percent of the world’s population and a quarter of the global economy. The members focus on topics relating to economic cooperation, improved multilateral trade and development and they operate under consensus.
The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal intergovernmental pollical forum of industrialised countries that meets annually to discuss challenges related to global economic governance, international security, and energy policies. Other states and international organisations are frequently invited as guests to participate in G7 meetings and the Leaders' Summit.
